The Ministry of Industry and Trade has prepared a draft resolution, according to which the quota for the export of mineral fertilizers may increase to 18.5 million tons. Document published on the portal of legal acts.
“Establish from June 1 to November 30, 2023 inclusive, a quantitative restriction on the export of mineral fertilizers in the amount of 18.5 million tons outside the territory of the Russian Federation to states that are not members of the Eurasian Economic Union,” the draft resolution says.
In November 2021, the government introduced temporary restrictions on the export of nitrogen fertilizers. Mishustin then explained that gas accounts for a significant part in the production structure of mineral nitrogen fertilizers. Due to rising gas prices abroad, there was a shortage of fertilizers, so it was necessary to prevent their shortage on the domestic Russian market and, as a consequence, an increase in food prices.
