The Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed the possibility of restricting parallel imports of radio electronics

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia confirmed the discussion of the possibility of limiting the parallel import of radio electronics. This was reported in the press service of the department, writes TASS.

“Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia <...> indeed considers the proposal received from the industry to limit the list of products in terms of radio electronics. At the moment, reasonable proposals for specific brands are being collected, confirmed by the corresponding figures for the production of similar domestic goods,” the representative office said.

The agency explained this by “optimizing the list of brands that are allowed to be imported into the country through parallel imports.”

Earlier today, Kommersant, citing its own sources wrotethat the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Russian manufacturers of equipment can limit the parallel import of more than 20 foreign brands of computing electronics into Russia. The list of such brands, according to the newspaper, includes Acer, Asus, MSI, Palit and others.

The general director of the consortium, Svetlana Legostayeva, in response to these data, told TASS that effective solutions would not be to restrict the import of technology brands, but to specific product ranges. She clarified that the list was provided by the Delovaya Rossiya NGO.

Parallel import involves the importation of original goods into the country without the permission of the copyright holder or manufacturer. In Russia, this measure came into effect on March 29, 2022 in response to Western sanctions. In September, the mechanism extended for 2023

The list of products for import under parallel import includes goods of electronics manufacturers (Apple, SamsungIntel, Asus, etc.), cars (Porsche, Jaguar, Rolls-Royce, etc.), rare earth metals, sports equipment, etc.
