First Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Vasily Osmakov said that the delivery of food and goods using drones may appear in the country in 2025-2030.
“Technically it [доставка беспилотниками] is already being done, but legally, everything needs to be finalized, because Moscow, from the point of view of allowing overflights, all these things, is a complex city in general, ”the deputy minister said on Sputnik radio (quote according to TASS).
Osmakov noted that the development of regulations for such deliveries is planned jointly with the Federal Air Transport Agency and the Ministry of Transport during this year. He said that the difficulties are related to the limitation of the flight height of drones, their permissions.
“Taking into account the specifics of the situation that we now have, in some regions it is simply forbidden in principle to use drones,” the official emphasized.
“From the next [2023] year, we start producing commercial services on a systematic basis. Parallel <...> we will participate in the revision of the regulatory framework, and we very much hope that this will happen by the end of 2024,” Variatchenko said then at the Technoprom-2022 forum in Novosibirsk.
Ground-based food-delivery drones are now operating in some regions of Russia. Courier robots were launched by the company “Yandex» in 2020 in Moscow and Kazan, and today they are also being tested in St. Petersburg and abroad, in particular, in Tel Aviv (Israel).
