The Ministry of Health supported the restriction of the sale of drugs for abortion

Abortion drugs should be registered and their sale limited, Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said. Drugs used for medical abortion must be tightly controlled for circulation, Mr. Murashko said. He told reporters about this after a meeting of the presidium of the United Russia faction, which, among other things, discussed the demographic situation.
“A block of questions related to demographic areas, in particular, restrictions on the sale and transfer of abortion drugs to subject-quantitative accounting. We support and believe that this process should be completed this year,” said Mr. Murashko (quoted from “Interfax”).
In 2016 to the State Duma was introduced a law banning the sale of drugs for medical abortion. In 2017, the relevant committee of the State Duma on health protection recommended to the lower house reject a bill banning the sale of drugs for artificial termination of pregnancy outside of medical facilities.
In August 2022 in the State Duma offered ban the online sale of medical abortion drugs. This was reported to TASS by Tatiana Butskaya, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children (United Russia).
For the period from 2021 to 2022, the number of abortions in the Russian Federation decreased by 3.9% (16,213) per year – from 411,414 in 2021 to 395,201 in 2022, reported in May “RIA Novosti” with reference to the Ministry of Health.
