The Ministry of Health is considering new measures to combat the spread of strong alcohol in Russia. Among them are a ban on sales from 20:00 to 11:00, an increase in the age of sale to 21, and others.
The measures under consideration are listed in the results of the work of the Ministry of Health for 2022. Document studied “RIA News”. In Russia, the targets for retail sales of alcohol and cigarettes were exceeded. In 2022, alcohol sales per capita in liters of ethanol amounted to 6.44, against a target value of 6.22.
What measures is the Ministry of Health considering:
- a ban on the sale of strong alcohol from 20:00 to 11:00;
- giving municipalities the right to impose restrictions on the sale of alcohol on weekends and holidays;
- an increase in the minimum age at which it is possible to sell strong alcohol (from 17.5 degrees), to 21 years;
- a ban on strong alcohol advertising, a ban on displaying trademarks in newly created audiovisual works (music videos, series, films, video blogs, music tracks, podcasts).
At the end of 2022, the Ministry of Health declared about the growth of the syndrome of dependence of the rural population on alcohol by 7%. The agency also records an increase in deaths from alcohol consumption. However, since 2008, alcohol consumption decreased by 40%. In October, President Vladimir Putin called the problem alcoholism solvable. In his opinion, the high level of consumption is associated with “insufficient development of social infrastructure.”
