The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has developed a concept that is aimed at curbing the sales and consumption of alcohol. Deputy head of the Russian department Evgenia Kotova spoke about this on Wednesday, October 18.
Kotova emphasized that the Ministry of Health is categorically against weakening the current restrictive measures – the policy already implemented by the state to combat alcoholism has demonstrated its effectiveness, so it must be adhered to.
The agency opposed the legalization of online sales of alcohol, as this will lead to an increase in its consumption and a decrease in alcohol prices, which will contribute to an increase in morbidity and mortality.
In September, Rosstat published data on alcohol consumption in Russia broken down by region. The most “drinking” subjects of the Russian Federation were the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (6.2 liters of ethanol per person), Sakhalin region (5.54), Komi Republic (5.4), Murmansk region (5.4), Karelia (5.51) .
