The Ministry of Health has released an updated version of temporary guidelines for doctors on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19, follows from information on the department’s website. The updated guidelines, in particular, include the new vaccine “Gam-COVID-Vac-D”, intended for children aged 6 to 11 years.
In the press service of the Ministry of Health TASS reported that the recommendations updated the list of regulatory documents that contain measures to prevent the risks of spreading the disease. Information on circulating strains of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) has also been updated.
The chapter “Prevention of COVID-19” lists the drugs recommended for vaccination. Among them are “Gam-Covid-Vac” and “EpiVacCorona” for persons 18 years of age and older, “AURORA-CoV”, “Convasel” and “Salnavak” for persons aged 18 to 60 years, “Gam-COVID-Vac” -M” for teenagers from 12 to 17 years old, as well as “Gam-COVID-Vac-D” for children from 6 to 11 years old. The single-component vector vaccine “Sputnik Light” is similar to the first component of “Gam-COVID-Vac,” the recommendations note.
The incidence of coronavirus began to rise in Russia in mid-summer. By data operational headquarters, during the week from October 16 to October 22, 19.9 thousand cases of the disease were detected in Russia, more than 3 thousand people were hospitalized. At the beginning of October “Kommersant” reportedthat in the largest private clinics in the capital it is impossible to get vaccinated against coronavirus, since they do not have the drugs Sputnik V and Sputnik Lite.
On October 23, the head of the Gamaleya Center that developed Sputnik, Alexander Gintsburg, announced that Sputnik V stopped protecting against COVID-19 from January 2023. He noted that he expects clinical trials of the new vaccine to end on December 10, but admits that its relevance may be lost by then. According to him, “there is nothing to vaccinate in Russia now,” except for the drugs Convasel (developed based on the N-protein of coronavirus) and EpiVacCorona.
