The situation with additional restrictions on ultrasound examinations (ultrasound) was clarified by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. Previously, the Russian Supreme Court banned this procedure without a referral from a doctor or other medical specialist. The basis was a lawsuit from a woman who claimed that the law on obtaining a preliminary referral for ultrasound from a specialist infringes on her civil rights. In addition, she pointed to the limitation of competition in this area of services due to the legal requirement for the doctor to indicate the location of the procedure. The Ministry of Health, responding to the decision of the highest judicial authority, announced on Monday, August 7, that no restrictions on ultrasound would be introduced.
“No additional restrictions and requirements have been introduced for more than 2.5 years of the rules, as they will not be with the decision of the Supreme Court,” the department stressed. The Ministry of Health added that ultrasound can be performed with the help of anesthesia and contrast agents.
