The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry criticized the Vatican for the participation of a Russian citizen in the procession on Good Friday in Rome.
Recall that two teenagers from Russia and Ukraine carried the crucifix on one of the sections of the Way of the Cross during a ceremony in Rome. They took part in the Via Crucis ceremony. It takes place in the capital of Italy on Good Friday. This year the event was called “Voices of Peace in a World of War”.
“The current march was once again overshadowed by an attempt to equate the victim and the aggressor,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Nikolenko.
In his opinion, the joint participation of a Ukrainian and a Russian in the event “distorts reality.”
Nikolenko believes that “an attempt to equate suffering Ukraine and suffering Russia is not conducive to reconciliation.” According to him, “reconciliation can only come after the Ukrainian victory.”
