The Ministry of Energy announced radical measures to combat the “gray” export of petroleum products

Russia will take radical and systemic measures to combat “gray” exports of petroleum products, which will affect the cost of fuel in the country. First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin announced this at a plenary meeting in the State Duma.
“We will take quite radical steps in the coming days <...> in order for this opportunity [«серого» экспорта] cover no matter what the difference and what the differential. Also, accordingly, systemic measures will be taken <...>to close this, and there will be systemic measures that will not allow this to be done in the future,” said the deputy head of the Ministry of Energy (quoted by TASS).
Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov previously reported that the total volume of “gray” fuel exports from Russia since the beginning of 2023 has already amounted to several million tons. This is a scheme in which gasoline purchased at a price for the domestic market is resold abroad at a higher cost.
To combat the “gray” export of petroleum products in the country, deputies introduced a bill to the State Duma introducing maximum prices for gasoline and diesel fuel in Russia. In agreement with the government, the authors of the document propose to introduce a maximum fuel price for a period of three to five years.
