Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov spoke about the planned reforms in the school system. Among other things, the Ministry of Education is going to introduce a single school uniform. The relevant bill has been submitted to the State Duma.
“The first is the additional provision of the status of the Russian language as the state language of Russia, the second is the introduction of a unified school uniform, the third is the transfer of schools to the regional level in order to centralize management mechanisms and to improve the efficiency of managing the education system. Such a bill has already been submitted to the State Duma by all factions, we support this project,” Mr. Kravtsov said during a government hour in the State Duma, his words are quoted by the press service Ministry of Education.
According to Sergei Kravtsov, the transfer of schools to the regions will make the management of the education system more efficient. State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, whose words are also quoted in a press release, expressed the hope that the regions would be able to adopt the amendments on the transfer of schools before the end of the year.
Now the regulation on wearing a school uniform is established by regional authorities. A bill on a unified school uniform was considered in the State Duma back in 2013. The issue of introducing a single uniform began to be discussed in 2012 after the case when a girl in a hijab was no longer allowed to enter a Stavropol school. The Supreme Court turned down lawyers who asked to lift the regional ban on wearing hijabs in Stavropol schools.
