The Ministry of Education, within the framework of the law on the state language adopted in February, is preparing a new dictionary. This was announced by the head of the department, Sergei Kravtsov, at the All-Russian Forum of Teachers of the Russian Language and Literature.
“Within the framework of this law, we must adopt revised dictionaries, we are also completing this work,” the minister said (quoted by TASS). He did not say whether there will be any innovations in the dictionary, or when it will be released for sale.
In April 2022, the Ministry of Education took out for public discussion of the draft resolution of the government of the Russian Federation “On the basic rules of Russian spelling”. In the previous version (such a document was developed for the first time since 1956), it was proposed to return the mandatory letter “ё” to the language, but the document was criticized for “rash innovations” in the spelling commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The project is still under discussion.
