The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defense were asked for a deferral for teachers of boarding schools and orphanages

With a proposal to expand the list of categories of citizens who can count on a deferment from conscription as part of partial mobilization, Yana Lantratova, First Deputy Head of the State Duma Education Committee, addressed the relevant ministers. According to the deputy, she receives numerous appeals from citizens and organizations about the need to introduce such a measure for teachers and caregivers of orphanages, boarding schools and social rehabilitation centers. In her appeal (Kommersant has it), Ms. Lantratova reports “the obvious practical benefits” of social teachers of male orphanages and boarding schools for the state and pupils, orphans and difficult adolescents with deviant behavior, “with which teachers can hardly cope -women”. In her opinion, the recruitment of male teachers can “negatively affect the pupils.”

Recall that partial mobilization has been announced in Russia since September 21. A few days later, the President signed a decree on the postponement for full-time and part-time students. On October 5, this document was amended to provide a similar deferment to students in non-state universities and graduate students. Since the end of September, many officials and public activists have come up with initiatives to provide deferrals for other categories related to education. So, for example, earlier the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation sent a petition to the government for a deferment from partial mobilization for school teachers (see Kommersant of October 16). The department is now awaiting a response from the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff and is ready for further negotiations. The trade union “University Solidarity” came up with the initiative to give a deferral for university teachers. In connection with this, the Ministry of Education and Science assured Kommersant that universities and scientific organizations “work out, in working order, with the military registration and enlistment offices, questions on granting deferrals for their employees.”

In turn, members of the community of academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) “July 1 Club” insist on the need for a deferment from mobilization for doctors and candidates of science. The new president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Gennady Krasnikov, also made a similar proposal earlier. More than 600 scientists, university staff and researchers signed an open letter demanding a deferment for people with advanced degrees.
