The Ministry of Education and Science will expand international cooperation on carbon polygons

Russia’s international cooperation on the Carbon Landfills project will be expanded in 2023, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov said at a meeting of the Expert Council on Scientific Support for the Development of Carbon Balance Control Technologies.

“Last year, we attracted a fairly large number of foreign experts to our board. This is already bearing fruit, we are launching a joint educational program with China on the design of climate projects. Joint projects are being formed with Iran and Egypt. This year it is necessary to launch projects with each country included in the council,” the minister said.

This year it is planned to hold two international youth expeditions – along the Caspian Sea and along the southern territories of Russia, subject to degradation and desertification.

According to him, initially the pilot project has already entered the stage of large-scale implementation and has ceased to be experimental: new Russian equipment is already being developed, and comparative tests with foreign models will begin in the near future. “We must continue to develop in this direction – not focus solely on monitoring greenhouse gases,” Falkov concluded.

As the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science notes, in 2021-2022. 15 carbon landfills with a total area of ​​over 40,000 hectares have been created in different regions of Russia.
