The Ministry of Education and Science obliged universities to form students intolerance to extremism

Universities in Russia will have to form in students an intolerant attitude towards extremism and terrorism, as well as the ability to counteract them. A new discipline is introduced by order Ministry of Education.

The federal state educational standards spell out the requirements for the results of mastering the bachelor’s program. It should establish a number of competencies, including citizenship. This competence has been described as the ability to “develop intolerant attitudes towards corrupt behavior”. The Ministry of Education and Science, by its order, replaced this wording with “form an intolerant attitude towards manifestations of extremism, terrorism, corrupt behavior and counteract them in professional activities.”

As the press service of the ministry told TASS, the innovation concerns undergraduate and specialist programs. The order will come into force on September 1.

In June 2022 at the Ministry of Education and Science declaredthat all Russian universities were excluded from the Bologna process. The Russian authorities decided to abandon the Bologna system (which implies the division of the educational process into four years of undergraduate and two years of master’s) and create their own. It was assumed that in the new system of higher education introduce specialist in exact sciences.
