The Ministry of Education and Science named the most popular directions among applicants in 2023

Information technology, healthcare and pedagogy have become the most popular areas for applicants in 2023. The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov spoke about this on Wednesday, September 13.

As the head of the Ministry of Education and Science noted on the Rossiya-1 broadcast, traditionally these three large groups of areas of study are the most popular among those entering secondary and higher educational institutions.

Falkov also said that in 2023, more applicants were able to enroll in budgetary departments of educational institutions thanks to the introduction of a quota for participants in a special military operation and members of their families.

The minister explained that more quota places were allocated than required, and the places unoccupied by SVO participants and their relatives “returned to the general competition, and thus an even larger number of school graduates entered the general competition.”

Meanwhile, demand has increased in St. Petersburg for education in colleges and technical schools by 30%. In total, out of 60 thousand applicants, 27.5 thousand people became first-year students in such educational institutions of the Northern capital.

In Tatarstan in 2023 there was an increase in the number potential applicants from China. According to preliminary estimates, there may be over two thousand students from China in universities in the region.
