The Ministry of Digital Development proposed to introduce access to secure enterprises for biometrics

The Ministry of Digital Development has developed a bill that proposes to oblige people to pass through biometrics to secure facilities. For example, industrial, defense, nuclear, nuclear, weapons, chemical enterprises, etc., informed “Kommersant” with reference to the document. Biometrics will be contained in the state information system “Unified Biometric System” (GIS EBS).

The publication noted that from the beginning of work in 2019 to the beginning of 2022, the EBS collected 236,400 biometric samples, and commercial banks collected 40-50 million unique casts in their own databases. Banks must submit them to the EBS, but only about 10% of the data meet the EBS criteria.

The Ministry of Digital Development explained to the publication that different departments are involved in the development of the bill, and the procedures for agreeing and adopting the document are planned to begin in the fall. The ministry added that the organization of access to sensitive facilities by biometrics will be voluntary, and if the company is not ready for this, it can use cards and passes. Rostelecom and Sberbank declined to comment.

The interlocutor of the publication in the biometrics market noted that in the current wording, the document prohibits the use of local access systems, but it is safer for high-security facilities not to transfer employee data outside the organization. According to another source among the developers of biometric services, the goal of the bill is to fill the EBS at any cost, “but it is not clear why.”
