The Ministry of Defense supported the introduction of military training in schools

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation supported the proposal of “A Just Russia – For the Truth” (SRZP) to introduce basic military training for schoolchildren and students of colleges and technical schools, given the “relevance of the issue.” The department believes that officers with combat experience can be involved in this work, and the training time should be at least 140 hours during the last two years of study. The initiative was supported by representatives of other factions of the State Duma, including United Russia.

Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, First Deputy Minister of Defense, sent a response to the proposal of the leader of the SRZP, Sergei Mironov. “Taking into account the relevance of the issue under consideration, the proposal to introduce a separate academic subject “Basic military training” at the levels of secondary general and secondary vocational education as compulsory for study, of course, deserves attention and is supported,” Mr. Gerasimov’s response says, excerpts from which lead “News”.

The Ministry of Defense recommends providing for professional retraining of teachers. The agency also, if necessary, proposes to staff the staff from among the citizens who served in the military under the contract in officer positions, “in the priority order of military personnel – participants in hostilities.” The Ministry of Defense is ready to take part in the work on changing the legislation.

Sergei Mironov believes that it is necessary to carry out not only technical training, which includes military tactics, fire training and the basics of military medicine, but also psychological. In his opinion, the implementation of the initiative will make it possible to employ tens of thousands of people.

The initiative to introduce military training in schools was supported by representatives of other parliamentary factions. The deputy chairman of the United Russia faction, Adalbi Shkhagoshev, said that “the initiative deserves very serious discussions.” “In my opinion, it will find its practical application,” he added. The idea was supported by State Duma Vice Speaker Boris Chernyshov (LDPR) and the head of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov (KPRF).
