According to the defense ministry, on the night of July 23, the Russian Armed Forces destroyed facilities where the Ukrainian authorities, together with foreign specialists, were preparing terrorist acts against Russia. These objects, as noted, were located “at a safe distance” from the temple complex.

Russian forces are planning strikes with precision-guided weapons “based on information carefully verified and confirmed through several channels,” and the defeat of civilians, as well as objects of cultural and historical heritage, is excluded, the Ministry of Defense emphasized.

According to the ministry, the most likely reason for the destruction of the temple was the fall of a Ukrainian anti-aircraft guided missile as a result of “the illiterate actions of the operators of air defense systems that the Armed Forces of Ukraine deliberately place in residential areas of settlements, including in the city of Odessa.”
