Ministry of Defense proposed assign the status of a combat veteran to Russians defending and protecting territories adjacent to the areas of a special military operation. The law should include, among other things, servicemen transferred to the reserve, liable for military service and called up for military training.
“The draft law has been prepared in order to establish the status of a combat veteran and a combat invalid for servicemen who … performed the tasks of repelling an armed invasion, protecting the constitutional rights of citizens, maintaining law and order, stabilizing the situation, protecting and defending important state facilities in the territories of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation adjacent to areas of the special military operation in the territories of Ukraine, the DPR, the LPR, the Zaporozhye region and the Kherson region,” the explanatory note says.
Currently, conscripts do not have the status of participants in hostilities, since they are not sent to the Northern Military District, but are located in the border regions, which regularly come under fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Combat veterans have a number of benefits. So, they are entitled to monthly payments (3481.85 rubles, for the disabled – 6328.41 rubles) and an increased pension. They are exempted from paying property tax on one taxable object, and land tax and personal income tax are reduced for them.
