The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine filed a libel suit over eggs

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has filed a lawsuit against the State Audit Service for the protection of business reputation and the demand “to refute false information about the alleged purchase of eggs for 17 hryvnias apiece.” The lawsuit was filed with the Kyiv Economic Court, local media write.
The plaintiff alleges that the leadership of the audit department in comments to the media reported “knowingly false or distorted information” amid a scandal over alleged corruption in the procurement of food for the military. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine insists that it has never purchased eggs at the indicated inflated price and that such a price was erroneously given in only one contract. It is also alleged that the error was identified promptly and the papers were sent for revision, and the head of the procurement department was fired, but the documents were “leaked”, and interviews with auditors only contributed to the scandal.
In addition, the plaintiff called false the statements of the defendant, according to which the ministry allegedly interfered with the audit in military units, referring to much more important tasks for the military in the current situation.
The military department accused the auditors that their statements “broadcast Russian propaganda narratives” and harm the reputation of the ministry under martial law.
