The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine commented on a previously published journalistic investigation, which claimed that the department purchased food for the military at a significant overpriced prices. The authors of the publication, referring to the December food purchase contract, stated that officials buy eggs for 17 UAH, while the retail price in Kyiv is 7 UAH. It was also reported that in the contract, potatoes were sold at UAH 22 per kilogram, while in the store their price is UAH 8-9, chicken thigh at UAH 120 per kilogram (instead of UAH 80).
“Intelligence <..> distributed with signs of deliberate manipulation and misleading,” the agency said in a statement.
They also reported that Defense Minister Aleksey Reznikov personally addressed the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security Alexander Zavitnevich the day before with a request to immediately hold a meeting and hear comprehensive information on procurement. The deputy head of the committee, Maryana Bezuglaya, said earlier that the ministry had “resonant conclusions” based on the results of the audit initiated. Previously at Bezugloy there was a conflict with the leadership of the Ukrainian army.
At the same time, the military ministry said that they were preparing materials for the SBU “in order to conduct an investigation into the dissemination of deliberately false information,” emphasizing that they “harm the interests of defense in a special period.” In addition, the department promised to conduct an internal audit, and in case of detection of corruption schemes, punish those responsible in accordance with the law.
