The Ministry of Defense granted a deferment from the mobilization of the fathers of three children

The Ministry of Defense in early October made changes to the criteria for granting a deferment from partial mobilization. Among other things, now fathers of three or more children under 16 are not subject to conscription. This is reported “Parliamentary newspaper” with reference to sources in the State Duma. Prior to this, deferment was granted if there were four or more children.

According to Andrey Kartapalov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, the document is classified as “for official use”, and therefore has not yet been officially published. Mr. Kartapalov called the measure taken “a goodwill gesture of the Ministry of Defense.” “It arose as a response to the request of society,” the parliamentarian said.

Head of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children Nina Ostanina in her Telegram channel published an appeal to the head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu with a request to explain to the military registration and enlistment offices the new procedure for granting deferrals. She reported more than 100 complaints from citizens who did not receive a reprieve, despite having three children in the family. Similar complaints were reported by Artem Metelev, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Youth Policy. He said that he received a lot of appeals from citizens who are issued summonses, despite the status of a father with many children.

Sergei Shoigu reported that as part of the partial mobilization announced on September 21, 300,000 reservists would be called up. 29 September President Vladimir Putin declared about the many mistakes made during the call. He noted cases when citizens who were entitled to a deferment, including fathers of many children, were called up. In several regions of Russia, since the beginning of mobilization, summons to citizens have been canceled due to complaints received. So, on September 23, in Buryatia, it was reported that 70 fathers with many children were erroneously called up. Vladimir Putin also noted that the Ministry of Defense did not make timely changes to the list of citizens subject to deferment.
