The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov, said that a so-called “smart bomb” – a GLSDB MLRS projectile fired by Ukrainian troops – was shot down in the zone of the special military operation. For the first time since the beginning of the NMD, the reports report the interception of such ammunition.
According to Konashenkov, air defense systems intercepted 18 shells fired from the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system per day. Also, according to him, “one GLSDB guided missile” was shot down.
As military expert Alexei Leonkov explained, the RF Armed Forces had not encountered this ammunition on the battlefield before, but the possibility of combating such bombs was incorporated into the Tor-M2 systems. Under certain conditions, the Pantsir-S1 installations can also work on them.
