The Ministry of Defense confirmed the appointment of Alexander Lentsov to the post of commander of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh

On April 25, Colonel-General Alexander Lentsov was appointed to the post of commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense. The day before his appointment informed Sputnik Armenia, citing a source.
“From April 25, 2023, Colonel-General Alexander Lentsov, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces of the RF Armed Forces, has been appointed commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement (quoted from “RIA News”).
Previously, the post of commander was held by Major General Andrei Volkov. He was appointed to the post in January 2022.
Alexander Lentsov took part in military operations in Afghanistan, Chechnya and Syria. In 2016, he served as deputy commander for commandant’s offices of the Russian Armed Forces grouping in Syria. In 2013, he was appointed to the post of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces, in January 2020 – Advisor to the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.
