The Ministry of Defense called it impossible to intercept the “Dagger” of the American air defense system

A senior source in the Russian Defense Ministry denied the Pentagon’s claim that a Patriot air defense missile system shot down a Russian hypersonic Kinzhal missile. About it writes Interfax.
According to the interlocutor of the agency, the flight speed of the “Dagger” exceeds the limit modes of the air defense systems delivered to Kiev, and at the end of the maneuver, the missile almost vertically hits the target. The source called the information a fake, since the parameters of the Russian air defense system do not allow for an interception.
“This is not the first time they have announced the interception of our missiles. Moreover, the number of interceptions is two to three times more than we actually launch. And, I will pay attention, not those missiles that arrive. They do this to justify the overexpenditure of ammunition of Western air defense systems, stretching their effectiveness, ”the source emphasized.
On May 10, Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said he could confirm that Ukraine allegedly shot down a Russian missile using Patriot air defense systems.
The American Patriot air defense systems are included in the $ 2 billion military aid package, which the United States announced at the end of December 2022. Germany and the Netherlands promised to supply the systems to Ukraine. The Kremlin calls American Patriots a legitimate target for the Russian military. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would be able to destroy the Patriot if they were delivered to Ukraine.
The Russian complex with hypersonic aeroballistic missiles “Kinzhal” has been on combat duty since 2017. Earlier it was reported that it was first used during a special operation in Ukraine in March 2022. The mass of the missile warhead is 500 kg, and the flight range is 2000 km.
