The Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of the American howitzer M777 in the DPR

Over the past day, Russian missile forces and artillery destroyed an American M777 howitzer near Georgievka in the DPR, from which Donetsk was shelled, informed the official representative of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov.

“In the area of ​​the settlement of Georgievka in the Donetsk People’s Republic, a position was opened and an M777 artillery system made in the United States was destroyed, from which residential areas of the city of Donetsk were shelled,” he said.

In addition, three Ukrainian D-30 howitzers were destroyed in the areas of the settlements of Torskoye, Vodyanoye and Maryinka in the DPR. The representative of the Ministry of Defense also spoke about the continuation of the offensive operations of the Russian forces in the Donetsk direction, as a result of which advantageous lines and positions were taken. In the Kupyansky, Krasnolimansky and Yuzhnodonets directions, Russian troops continued to strike at concentrations and positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia, and on October 19 martial law was introduced in the regions.

In response, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and began to provide military assistance to Ukraine. Western military aid to Ukraine totaled $40 billion, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said November 30.
