The Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of five Patriot air defense systems during a strike on Kyiv

The Russian army, as a result of the use of hypersonic missiles “Dagger”, destroyed five US-made Patriot air defense missile launchers, as well as a multifunctional radar station, which were located in Kyiv. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

“According to reliable data, on May 16, as a result of an attack by the Kinzhal hypersonic missile system in the city of Kiev, a multifunctional radar station was hit and completely destroyed, as well as 5 launchers of the US-made Patriot anti-aircraft missile system,” the report says.

On April 16, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the country’s Armed Forces destroyed a Patriot anti-aircraft missile system in Kyiv during a night strike with a hypersonic Kinzhal missile. Russia, according to the defense department, launched a concentrated strike with long-range precision weapons at the points of deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and warehouses with ammunition and equipment delivered from Western countries. All intended targets were hit.

Later, CNN, citing an unnamed American official, reported that the Patriot air defense system was damaged as a result of a missile hit.

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine has been going on since February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia. Since October 19 last year, martial law has been introduced in the regions.
