The Ministry of Culture of the Trans-Baikal Territory stated that it found no violations in the staging of the New Year’s play in the village of Kaptsegaituy, Krasnokamensky district. As previously reported, regional authorities on January 17 started checking the local cultural center for the promotion of non-traditional values. The occasion was a performance where “the role of the Snow Maiden was played by a boy.”
“A conversation was held with the head of the district’s cultural committee, the holiday script was studied, and an explanatory note was received from the authors. On December 31, a costume party was held in the house of culture of the village of Kaptsegaituy, where members of the club formations of the house of culture, the majority of whom were boys, were involved as actors. They take an active part in the cultural life of the village and attend clubs. The action according to the script involved comic disguises and New Year’s miniatures. A costumed New Year’s party is one of the main forms of organizing the New Year,” notes the message Regional Ministry of Culture.
It is noted that ministry specialists studied “publicly available footage” of the performance. Local residents had previously complained about the performance, believing that it promoted “non-traditional sexual relationships.” On January 19, the acting head of the Krasnokamensky district, Natalya Shcherbakova, appointed a gathering of residents of the village of Kaptsegaituy, asking citizens to come to it “to fully understand the situation.”
