The Ministry of Agriculture expects a labor shortage in agriculture of 30–50 thousand people by 2030

By 2023, the minimum requirement for personnel for the agro-industrial complex of the Russian Federation may reach 30 thousand people, said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev. According to him, labor shortage has become a problem for almost all sectors of the economy.

“We have calculated that by 2030 we will have a shortage of approximately 30 thousand people, from 30 to 50 thousand, depending on how you count,” the minister said at the XV Congress of the National Union of Milk Producers (quoted by Interfax) ).

He clarified that the Ministry of Agriculture is “perplexed by the problem” and, together with the Ministry of Labor, is developing a methodology for forecasting the need for personnel. As Mr. Patrushev emphasized, it is impossible to “organize work normally without attracting foreign workers.” The Ministry of Agriculture is also working to “increase the prestige of the profession.”

“In our universities, in agreement with the Ministry of Education and Science, we plan to introduce modern specialties in breeding, genetics of agricultural plants and animals, and we are working on creating a system of preferences for admission to our universities from the secondary vocational education system,” the minister said.
