The Minister of Social Protection of Bashkortostan considered it fascism to check newlyweds for compatibility

The Minister of Family, Labor and Social Protection of Bashkiria, Lenara Ivanova, called the proposal to oblige future spouses to provide a certificate of genetic compatibility to the registry office as fascism. This initiative was made by the chairman of the Committee on Health, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs of the Republican State Assembly, Salavat Kharasov. According to him, the proposal comes from “individual doctors” who believe that genetic research is necessary to ensure that young people have healthy children.

Lenara Ivanova believes that this initiative is “on the verge of a foul.” “Although I understand you. I also really want only healthy children to be born. It’s a disaster that the number of disabled children is constantly growing, and the proportion of children with mental and nervous disorders is growing,” she admitted.

Speaker of the State Assembly Konstantin Tolkachev said that the proposal for mandatory genetic testing of future newlyweds is not currently being discussed. He added that deputies receive many different proposals, but not all initiatives are put into action. “There is, of course, no talk of introducing mandatory genetic testing as a condition for marriage. We cannot decide who is born and who is not,” he emphasized, adding that adults themselves have the right to decide with whom and when to have children.
