Russian corporation “Gazprom“has the right to terminate the gas supply agreement with Chisinau, said Moldavian Energy Minister Viktor Parlikov.
At the same time, according to the minister, termination of the agreement could lead to an increase in electricity prices and a possible humanitarian disaster on the left bank of the Dniester.
In the fall of 2022, Gazprom reported that Moldovagaz’s debt for gas supplied was $433 million, and taking into account late payments – $709 million. The Government of Moldova decided to conduct an independent audit to clarify this figure.
In September, the President of the Republic, Maia Sandu statedthat the audit did not reveal the debt of the Moldovan company. Parlicov noted that Chisinau is ready to pay $8.6 million out of the declared $709 million.
“Gazprom“did not recognize the audit, since it was carried out unilaterally and determined without agreement with the Russian corporation and Moldovagaz.
