The subject “History” should be made popular for passing the Unified State Examination (USE), says the head of the Ministry of Education, Sergei Kravtsov.

“We need to expand the subject “History”, make it widespread by passing the unified state exam. Because understanding the history of our country, our culture is very important,” said Mr. Kravtsov at a meeting of the State Duma committee (quote from “RIA News”).

Minister toldthat the subject “Social Studies” will not be cancelled. He noted that it will be taught from the 9th grade and it will be a “practice-oriented course, including legal education.”

In February, the Ministry of Education proposed increasing the number of hours for studying history in the school curriculum by almost one and a half times by adjusting the social studies course. It is assumed that social studies will now be studied from the 9th grade.
