The general director of the Mikron plant, Gulnara Khasyanova, said that there would be no problems in Russia with the production of new-style passports with a ten-year service life. According to her, the company has found a replacement for foreign materials used to issue passports.
“There are Russian manufacturers of analogues of foreign materials, we are actively working with them, not everything works out the first time,” Ms. Khasyanova said in response to the question of whether analogues of foreign materials were found and whether there would be problems with the production of passports for ten years. She spoke about this during the plenary session of the Svyaz-2023 forum (quote from TASS).
The Mikron plant is the largest manufacturer and exporter of microelectronics in Russia. The company produces microchips and chips for documents with biometric data, transport cards, Internet of Things equipment and a narrow range of general-purpose processors.
At the end of January 2023, in the offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for migration issues in different regions of Russia appeared reports that the Goznak factory has suspended the production of new passports. Citizens are recommended to withdraw the application and submit a new one – for the issuance of a passport with a service life of five years. The announcements noted that the issuance of new-type documents was suspended for an indefinite period. March 10 at the press service of Goznak reportedthat now passports with a service life of ten years are made only on previously submitted applications.
February 2 portal “Gosuslugi” suspended accepting applications for new passports. Goznak confirmed information about problems with the issuance and production of new-type documents, citing a lack of necessary microcircuits.
