When trying to find a service, the search returns only applications from one of the structures of the Megalabs company. The operator’s application is still available in the App Store, the Vedomosti correspondent was convinced.
April 12 US Treasury introduced sanctions against Megafon by adding the company to the SDN list. The pretext for imposing restrictions was that it is owned by the USM Group, which is 49% owned by businessman Alisher Usmanov. It has been under US sanctions since 2022.
The SDN list prohibits US companies from interacting with organizations on this black list in any way. Megafon cannot export, sell or supply any telecommunications equipment, provide services in the United States, or receive software. It was expected that due to restrictions, the operator’s application will disappear from the App Store and Google Play.
Later in “Megaphone” clarifiedthat US sanctions will not have a direct impact on business, subscribers and services. The company called the inclusion of the operator in the sanctions list “unreasonable and illogical.” They stressed that they will challenge the decision in court.
