FP: The State Department plans to expand the staff of the US Embassy in Ukraine

The US State Department plans to expand the staff of the embassy in Ukraine; for this it is planned to send 30-40 diplomats to the embassy in Kyiv, Foreign Policy magazine reports.

The publication, citing sources, also notes that the US State Department expects to expand the ability of American diplomats to travel within Ukraine.

At the same time, the article notes, the Biden administration took such a step even taking into account concerns about the increased risks of a conflict with Russia.

Now the staff of the US Embassy in Ukraine numbers up to 200 people, both civilian diplomats and military personnel, while in the summer of 2023 there were only a few dozen people at the embassy.

Now, as Foreign Policy writes, American diplomats will be able to move freely around the Kyiv region without prior consent from the White House. Previously, they could only move within the capital of Ukraine; in other cases it was necessary to obtain appropriate permission. The article states that the United States wants to strengthen oversight of the movement and use of weapons received from the United States.
