The media reported the arrest of another defendant in the case of the murder of the ambassador to Turkey

Another person involved in the case of the murder of the Russian ambassador to the republic Andrei Karlov, which took place in 2016, was detained in Turkey. writes Sabah newspaper, citing sources.

The wife of one of those involved in the murder was detained. According to the publication, she had already been sentenced in absentia to nine years in prison for participation in a terrorist organization, but all this time she was hiding from the investigation. At the same time, at the Russian embassy reportedthat they did not receive information from Turkish law enforcement officers about the detention of another defendant in the case.

Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was shot dead on December 19, 2016, while speaking at the opening of a photography exhibition in Ankara. The 22-year-old police officer Mevlut Mert Altintash, who shot at the ambassador, was killed by law enforcement officers. The Russian Foreign Ministry qualified the incident as a terrorist attack.

In March 2021, the court sentenced five defendants in this case to life imprisonment. Another nine people received sentences ranging from five to nine years. By that time, the same number were still on the wanted list. Five defendants in the case were acquitted.
