Media: the appointment of Zaluzhny as ambassador was accompanied by a violation of diplomatic norms

When former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny was appointed to the post of Ukrainian Ambassador to Great Britain, there were “unprecedented violations” of diplomatic norms, writes the Ukrainian publication Zerkalo Nedeli.

Earlier it became known that Zaluzhny’s candidacy for the post of Ukrainian Ambassador to Great Britain was agreed upon by London. At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry only sent a request to the UK for an agreman, that is, permission to appoint an ambassador, which in itself is a violation of diplomatic norms. As noted, this has never happened in world practice.

“Such a statement violates diplomatic ethics, all written and unwritten rules of diplomacy,” writes Mirror of the Week.

It is also indicated that these actions were carried out by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry under pressure from the office of the Ukrainian president, where they feared that the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine would not want to take the post offered to him.

“At the same time, Kuleba is not a minister who can say “no” to Zelensky when he “violates laws, rules and decency,” the article says.

Zerkalo Nedeli also writes that Zaluzhny’s readiness to work effectively in his new position is questionable, given his not the best relationship with Zelensky. The article states that the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has no idea about diplomatic work.

Washington Post journalists noted that Zaluzhny could pose a threat to Zelensky if he decides to start a political career. On February 5, shortly before Zaluzhny’s resignation from the post of commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Yevgeny Shevchenko announced that he had agreed to the post of ambassador to the UK.
