The media reported on the forthcoming EU sanctions against five citizens of Moldova

The European Union intends to impose sanctions on five citizens of Moldova because of their actions to “destabilize” the republic, figured out EUobserver portal.

The blacklist, according to him, includes the chairman of the opposition Shor party, Ilan Shor, his deputy Marina Tauber, and ex-deputy Vladimir Plahotniuc. By including these persons in the sanctions list, the EU intends to prevent the “usurpation of power by Russia” in Chisinau, the portal notes.

Earlier on May 1, Tauber was detained at the airport in Chisinau. According to the anti-corruption prosecutor’s office of the republic, she planned to fly to Tel Aviv with a transfer in Istanbul. The agency ruled that the politician violated the conditions provided for by the preventive measures. Tauber was charged with illegal financing of the Shor party last summer. On May 2, Tauber was placed under house arrest; on May 18, a preventive measure extended for another 20 days.

In early February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a speech at the European Council, said that intelligence had intercepted the “Russian plan” to “destroy the democratic order” in Moldova and he handed over these documents to the Moldovan leader Maia Sandu. The Kremlin then replied that they knew nothing about such a plan.

On February 13, Sandu said that the country’s departments had confirmed the information provided by Ukraine about Russia’s plans to destabilize the situation in the country. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation named these statements are unsubstantiated, saying that Russia does not interfere in the internal affairs of Moldova and other countries of the world and does not pose a threat to Chisinau.

On April 27, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that a rather “long list” of high-ranking Russian leaders, including President Vladimir Putin, was banned from entering the country and that the republic would be fined for wearing a St. George ribbon on May 9 Victory Day.
