French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni provoked a diplomatic row at an informal summit of the European Political Community in Granada, Spain.

By data During the summit, Bloomberg, Macron and Meloni agreed to hold a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the issue of migration. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez felt this was a distraction from the formal talks that were already taking place under his leadership and decided to cancel a joint press conference with Sunak.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said Meloni’s government was “unable” to cope with migration flows. Meloni has previously expressed complaints about migrants to Germany. She stated that “the migration problem will not be solved if one country blames it on others,” referring to German NGOs rescuing migrants from the Mediterranean and then delivering them to Italian ports.

At a bilateral meeting in Granada, Scholz and Meloni discussed her failed attempt to persuade Tunisia to help stop the flow of people trying to cross the sea into Italy, Bloomberg writes.

The summit in Granada took place on October 5-6, and discussed, among other things, the issue of European Union enlargement and its consequences, but it was not possible to reach agreement on this issue. Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki statedthat Warsaw rejects the distribution of migrants in the European Union based on the decisions of Berlin and Brussels.
