The media learned about the differences between Germany and Poland on the issue of repairing Leopard tanks

Germany and Poland have not been able to agree on a mechanism for the repair of Leopard tanks delivered to Ukraine, disputes on this matter continue, informs Spiegel, citing sources from the military industry.

Initially, Berlin and Warsaw agreed to launch a repair plant for these tanks in Poland. The German tank manufacturers Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) in partnership with the Polish arms concern PGZ were supposed to take part in its creation. The cost of repairs was to be borne by the German government. However, the joint venture never got off the ground.

The controversy arose due to the fact that PGZ demanded too much money for repairs. For example, a Polish company wants to receive more than 100,000 euros for the initial diagnosis of the condition of a tank, while Germany is ready to allocate about 12,000 euros for this. The Polish side also refuses to take responsibility for the quality of the repair.

As the newspaper notes, Poland’s demands are politically tinged, since Warsaw has recently stepped up criticism of Berlin, including the supply of German tanks to Ukraine.

Western countries began to supply their weapons to Ukraine even before the start of the special operation, but after February 24, 2022, the supplies increased significantly, the range of supplies also expanded – they included tanks, MLRS, drones, etc.

On June 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the active phase of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had given way to a certain lull, due to serious losses on the Ukrainian side. According to him, the soldiers of the Russian army have already destroyed 245 tanks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and 678 armored vehicles of various types. Among them, in particular, there are German Leopards, as well as American and French armored vehicles.
