Today, June 14, Advisor to the General Director of Rosenergoatom Concern Renat Karchaa announced about postponing the visit of the head of the IAEA and the delegation of the agency for a day. June 12 Grossi headed to Ukraine, where he planned a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky. In addition, he wrote on Twitter that he would present a program of assistance in eliminating the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
On June 7, the day after the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP in the Kherson region broke, Grossi said that every hour the water level in the Zaporizhzhya NPP tanks was dropping by 5-7 cm. In this regard, in the medium term, the station could be left without water for cooling, which to damage the reactors, he said. According to the data obtained by the IAEA experts at the ZNPP site, by the morning of June 11, the water level at the Zaporizhzhya TPP was estimated at 11.27 m compared to almost 17 m before the dam burst.
Karchaa in turn declaredthat water for the needs of nuclear power plants will be received from artesian wells, it may come in the near future. He also noted that a mobile pumping station is coming from the Smolensk nuclear power plant, with the help of which water will be pumped out and another source of replenishment will be received.
On the night of June 6, about 150 km from the ZNPP, the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was blown up. As a result of the incident, an uncontrolled discharge of water began, the level of which reached about 11 m. Russian President Vladimir Putin named the undermining of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station by the barbaric action of Kyiv, which led to a large-scale environmental and humanitarian catastrophe.
