The media considered the meeting of European leaders in Granada a failure

An informal meeting of the European Political Community (EPC) in Granada, Spain, which was attended by almost 50 leaders, dozens of their aides and “legions” of journalists, ended without any results. writes Politico.

The ENP was created last year on the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, and the first summit was held in October 2022 in the Czech Republic.

The summit was declared as a platform to promote peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, reduce tension in the Balkans, and talk about security on the continent. The publication notes that European leaders really “rallied” around Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who arrived at the summit to enlist European support.

But hopes for resolving the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh were dashed after the leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, refused to participate in the summit. Baku accused Paris of bias and eventually agreed to a meeting, but under the auspices of the EU in Brussels.

Attempts to reduce tensions between partially recognized Kosovo and Serbia also proved futile – Kosovo leader Josa Osmani refused to negotiate with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic unless sanctions were imposed against Belgrade.

The culmination of the informal summit, the publication writes, was the cancellation of a press conference for 700 journalists. Many European leaders also did not communicate with the press, for example, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. And Macron, according to Politico, “had nothing substantive to say to journalists.”
