Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Azerbaijan on Monday, September 25, at the invitation of Head of State Ilham Aliyev. About it reports NTV Haber.
The Turkish leader, as noted, will visit the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an exclave that is separated from the rest of Azerbaijan by the territory of Armenia. In Nakhichevan, the presidents of the two countries will discuss bilateral relations and “regional and international events.” In particular, Erdogan and Aliyev will talk about Baku’s “anti-terrorist operation” in Karabakh and the “process of disarmament of separatist soldiers.”
The parties also intend to discuss the Zangezur corridor, which will provide a connection between Azerbaijani territories and the Nakhichevan Republic.
Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorist measures” necessary for the “restoration of the constitutional order” in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19. The next day, the unrecognized republic announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire and disarmament of troops with the participation of Russian peacekeepers.
September 20 Aliyev and Erdogan held a telephone conversation during which they exchanged views on “the completion of local anti-terrorist measures, the laying down of arms by illegal armed groups in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and their disarmament.”
Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan on Foreign Policy Hikmet Hajiyev later stated that the Azerbaijani authorities created a special government group to resolve issues related to the entry of Nagorno-Karabakh into Azerbaijan.
