The mayor of Vorkuta, Yaroslav Shaposhnikov, announced that he would go to serve in the special operation zone under a contract. About it informs TASS with reference to the city administration.
“The time has come to directly support our guys and take part in a special military operation as a soldier. Soon I will conclude a contract for one year with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, ”Shaposhnikov is quoted by the mayor’s office.
He added that five more people from the administration would go with him to the war zone. According to the mayor, Vladimir Uyba, head of the Komi Republic, supported his decision. The administration added that the terms of dispatch are being specified, and the issue of an acting mayor for the period of service is also being decided.
Yaroslav Shaposhnikov has been the mayor of Vorkuta since March 2021. Before coming to Komi in 2020, he was the chairman of the Kuzmishchensky rural settlement of the Kostroma region, as well as the chairman of the council of deputies of the Kostroma district. In 2021, the official was sent as part of a mobile detachment of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs on a business trip to Chechnya. There he worked as an investigator for the “Special Zone City of Grozny” and took part in counter-terrorism activities.
In November last year, the special operation zone also went Mayor of Chita Alexander Sapozhnikov. He said that he was a paratrooper with combat experience, and noted that “he cannot stay away from the fateful battle.” The mayor’s office clarified that Andrei Grenishin was appointed acting head of the city administration.
