The mayor of Shebekino became “person of the year” according to volunteers – Kommersant

The mayor of Shebekino (Belgorod region) Vladimir Zhdanov became the winner in the special category “Person of the Year” of the “We Are Together” award, which was presented today, December 7, as part of the volunteer forum of the same name.

“Today the forum ends, but good deeds do not end,” said First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Sergei Kiriyenko, presenting the award to Mr. Zhdanov. “They have no restrictions – neither in time nor in space. Behind each participant in the “We Are Together” award is a team of like-minded people, a huge number of people whom you were able to help. The main wealth of Russia is people with caring hearts, capable of accepting the pain of another person as their own. As President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin said at the opening of the forum: “As long as we are together, we are absolutely invincible.” Together we truly are a huge team of good.”

The city of Shebekino is located on the border with Ukraine and is regularly subjected to shelling from the adjacent territory. Vladimir Zhdanov at one time organized the evacuation of the townspeople, and subsequently worked on the restoration of the city. He was nominated for this award by the All-Russian Association for the Development of Local Self-Government (VARMSU).

“To be honest, I didn’t even know that the All-Russian Association for the Development of Local Self-Government nominated me for this award,” Mr. Zhdanov admitted at the ceremony. “I thank the organizers of the award, of course, I thank VARMSU for their trust and nomination. But still, it would probably be wrong to say that the person of the year is Vladimir Zhdanov. Everything that was done in those difficult days for our native land, everything that is being done now is for all our residents, this is the support of the leadership of the region, the president and the whole country. For me, every Shebekin resident is a person of the year.”
