The head of Penza, Alexander Basenko, proposed postponing the installation of memorial plaques in schools in honor of graduates who died during a military operation on the territory of Ukraine. He urged not to create “necropolises” on school buildings and to take care of the children’s psyche, reports PenzaInform from the session of the Penza City Duma.
“I have the greatest respect for the participants in the special military operation. We take a large number of social support measures for their families. But I want you to think about how a large number of memorial plaques on school buildings will be perceived by the child’s psyche. These are primarily educational institutions where children from 7 years old study,” said Mr. Basenko.
The mayor of the city said that in Penza there are schools in which 7-8 graduates died during the fighting in Ukraine. He emphasized that he is not in favor of abandoning the installation of memorial plaques, but noted that the authorities need to work on patriotic education so that graduates want to join the army for military service.
Mr. Basenko suggested waiting for the “completion of the process” and then installing a memorial plaque that would list all the residents of the region who died in the special operation.
