The court arrested him until November 29 Mayor of Pechora Valery Serovthe day before he was detained as part of a criminal case of corruption.

According to investigators, the official and his former deputy Andrei Kanishchev received a bribe of 4 million rubles from a local businessman for obtaining contracts for improvement outside of tenders.

The official claimed that he was going to the Northern Military District zone because “as an officer, as a citizen” he could not “stay away from the fateful battle of our Motherland.” According to several reports, the mayor was detained at home several hours before his planned departure.
