The mayor of Nova Kakhovka announced the threat of infection after the destruction of the hydroelectric power station

After the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, there is a threat of infection in Novaya Kakhovka. This was announced by the head of the city district Vladimir Leontiev on the air of Channel One.

“In fact, there is a threat of infection, because one of the cemeteries is washed out. <...> Water samples were taken yesterday,” said Leontiev (quote according to RIA Novosti).

He noted that the chemical analysis “so far meets the standards.” However, the results of bacteriological analysis will come “within the next day.” Services also check artesian wells in the region, Leontiev added.

Acting Governor of the Kherson region Volodymyr Saldo on the air of the Solovyov Live TV channel said that the services had taken water samples, and disinfection of the territory would begin in the next two to three days.

According to him, the city began to partially turn on electricity. In the administration of the city district reported about the drop in water level. As of 8:35 a.m., the water level had dropped “by half a meter,” Leontiev noted. He noted a positive trend.

The breakthrough of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the night of June 6. As a result, an uncontrolled discharge of water began. The day before, the level of water rise in Nova Kakhovka increased by more than 11 m. A local emergency regime (ES) was introduced on the territory of the district. On the fact of the incident, the Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on a terrorist attack.

By versions Russian side, the cause of the incident at the HPP was shelling, which led to the destruction of three spans under water pressure. The administration of the Novokakhovsk urban district stated that, presumably, the blow was delivered by the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Alder MLRS (RS-2).

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu laid responsible for the incident on Kyiv, saying that the Ukrainian side had blown up the constructions of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. In the Kremlin called what happened as a deliberate sabotage and connected it with the “unsuccessful counteroffensive” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ukraine blames Russia for the destruction of the station. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the country will convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council because of the situation around the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. Similar actions will undertake Russia.
