The athletics marathon “Protecting Lives” is being held in Essentuki (Stavropol Territory) this coming weekend. Applications for participation in the track and field marathon at the CMS have already been received from four hundred athletes from different regions of the country.
There will be several marathon distances – over 42 kilometers, a “half-marathon run” of ten, five kilometers and two kilometers for children. The route of the marathon in Essentuki will run through the resort area, past local attractions – old mansions and mud baths.
The runners will start from Theater Square after laying flowers at the memorial erected in Victory Park in memory of the fallen servicemen, the Essentuki administration reports. All participants in the race must be trained.
The mayor of Yessentukov, Alexander Nekristov, also trained, and he intends to go to the start along with other participants. “I’m not ready for the 42-kilometer marathon distance yet,” Alexander Nekristov admitted to his subscribers on social networks. “But I’ll try to run a 10, or maybe even a half marathon,” the mayor said.
Essentuki claim the status of the sports capital of the Stavropol Territory. This year, competitions of the All-Russian Triathlon Cup and the Russian Parachuting Championship have already been held here.
